David: A thrilling game with Kelson on a cloudy Saturday morning at Leader’s Gardens! We battled it out for two hours but Kelson finally held his nerve to secure a hard-fought win on his third match-point! The first set was highly competitive! We had a series of lung-busting rallies which seemed to go on forever! However, I made a few too many unforced errors and Kelson moved 3-1 ahead. Although I reduced the deficit to 3-2, Kelson increased his lead to 5-2 and looked poised to take the opening set. Yet I refused to lie down and demonstrated my fighting qualities to make it 5-3. I saved a set-point in the next game before making it 5-4 but Kelson held his serve to clinch the opening set! The second set was even better! I raised my level and became more aggressive with my forehand, spraying the ball into both corners and forcing Kelson to produce some solid defence! Although I found winners on several occasions, I was also frustrated with Kelson’s stellar endurance at the back of the court! With the score locked at 1-1, the game that followed was undoubtedly the best of the match! I took a 40-0 lead but Kelson fought back and forced deuce. A series of breathtaking (I was breathing heavily throughout) rallies followed but eventually Kelson prevailed in what turned out to be a 10-minute game! Our nip-and-tuck rallies continued as we both cancelled each other out for much of the set with none of us leading by two games at any point. Kelson produced an unbelievable forehand on the run when I appeared to have won the point with an emphatic smash! I saved a couple of match-points while 5-4 down before levelling up at 5-5. Kelson went 6-5 ahead but I recovered from 30-0 down and then forced a tie-break! The tie-break also ebbed and flowed throughout but Kelson came from behind to lead 6-4 and secured two match-points! I struck a powerful forehand which may have clipped the line but neither of us were certain and we replayed the point. I made the mistake of attempting a smash but the ball sailed over my head and Kelson finally sealed victory! Well played Kelson! What a superb match! It was certainly my most enjoyable game of 2025 so far, even though I lost! Best of luck in the league and I hope we can meet again some time to resume battle!

Laurent: Nice match with Shez. I started strongly and took the first 3 games, before Shez turned thing around and took the lead with 4 games in a row. The rest of the set was very close but I managed to win the first set. The second set was the same story, but this time Shez started strongly and took the lead up to 4-1. I managed to come back miraculously to win the second set 6-4. Lots of long rallies, lots of deuces, very close match which could have gone either way. Thanks a lot Shez it was a lot of fun and a good Saturday morning workout.
