David: An enjoyable match with Luke on a glorious Wednesday morning at Parsons Green Sports & Social Club! The result was certainly as one-sided as the score line suggests and perhaps I was slightly fortunate to claim three games over both sets! I knew I was in trouble after the first game! Luke sent down two booming aces to go 30-0 up, I failed to return the next serve and then I finally got on the scoreboard thanks to a double fault! Luke soon went 1-0 ahead and most of his service games followed a similar pattern for the rest of the match! Luke broke my serve and subsequently extended his lead to 3-0. Meanwhile, things went from bad to worse as I foolishly struck two of my own new balls into the school next door; I didn’t attempt to retrieve them. I finally got some joy when I held serve to reduce the deficit to 3-1 but Luke comfortably won the next three games and clinched the opening set! Fortunately, no more balls were lost in the second set but my morale was soon dented as Luke raced into a 4-0 lead. I simply couldn’t cope with Luke’s ferocious serves and groundstrokes! At one point I stood next to the fence at the back of the court and still didn’t have enough room to make the return! Eventually I recovered from 15-40 down on my own serve - after replaying a point due to a close call - to avoid the bagel and make it 4-1. I struck my first and only clean winner too! Luke thundered his way into a 5-1 lead but I somehow held my serve again to remain in the contest. Despite my best efforts, Luke once again held with relative ease to secure a comprehensive victory in just under an hour! Well played Luke! After taking part in this league for two and a half years, you’re definitely one of the best players I’ve had the privilege to play against! Keep up the good work and best of luck in the rest of the league!
